On Monday last, Jan. 25th, people from all over the world climbed into bed together and into the Guinness Book of World Records. The New record for most people in a bunk bed became a reality for the launch of Dublin’s Best Hostels (DBH), a new organisation consisting of ourselves, The Four Courts Hostel, and 7 other Dublin City hostels promoting the culture of backpacking and independent travelling and our love for it!

The record breaking 30 people in a bed was achieved at the Annual Hoscars ceremony hosted by Hostelworld.com at The Button Factory and further plans for a variety of hostel events from DBH are already in motion so watch this space…..

Dublin has, for the last few years at least,  embraced Australia Day with a passion as many Pubs and Clubs run Aussie themed events on the day, Jan. 26th, in celebration of  ‘Home and Away‘, kangaroos, Beach bods, Summertime during our Wintertime & all other things Aussie. To celebrate what we love most about Austrailia, we at The Four Courts Hostel are giving all Aussie girls a 10% discount off their stay with us for Australia Day.

The Four Courts Hostel would like to shout a huge Well Done!!! to Local Irish Animation firm ‘Brown Bag Studios’. The Nicky Phelan short  ‘Granny O’Grimm’s Sleeping Beauty’ which Brown Bag produced has been shortlisted for a potential oscar nod for best Animated short. Check it out here: http://bit.ly/4KDrDh . This is Brown Bags second oscar nod after getting short listed a few years ago for ‘Give up your Auld Sins’. That year Pixars ‘For the Birds’ beat them to it. Not bad work from the ‘Ballyer’ Boys. To Cathal and the rest of the crew Best of Luck lads!!

So she decided to show that shower a thing or two about how it feels to be old and constantly sleepy!

Happy new year mad nomads, as another decade of the noughties begins we are looking forward to a whole new year of exciting events and great gigs in Dublin, and we don’t need to look very far ahead for an opportunity to enjoy an eclectic mix of high quality musical performance and fun……

The award-winning Temple Bar Trad Fest takes place from the 27th to the 31st of January 2010 and celebrates it’s fifth and most exciting year….and it’s on our doorstep!   There will be truly remarkable musicians, the most sought-after masters of their trade in fact, ascending on Temple Bar, the cultural quarter, to perform at a number of imtimate live shows at various venues. The calibre of musicianship on offer this year means this element of the festival will really be unique and very special indeed. Of course, that’s not all this little festival has for us as there are a huge amount of FREE EVENTS. The cobblestoned streets of Temple Bar will come alive with the sound and presence of Pipers, Céilís (taditional Irish set dancing), Craft Fair, Irish Cultural Workshops, Photo Exhibition, film Screenings and movies on the square, outdoor performances, a market, a traditional food trail, ‘fun beside the Liffey’, as well as puppetry, a playground and a parade. Every Pub from one end of Temple-Bar to the other will host top class musicians, including Kíla, Kevin Glackin and Sean óg Potts, playing up-tempo sessions keeping the atmosphere electric and the craic mighty.

The Four Courts Hostel is in the best location for enjoying this much loved and unique festival, adjacent to Temple Bar and overlooking the river Liffey, we are mere dancing distance to this celebration of traditional Irish Culture.

If you are staying with us during the festival you can avail of free tin-whistle lessons from our very own qualified musician and teacher…so why not embarce Tradfest, get a comfy bed with us at an unbeatable price in the heart of Dublin City, get yourself a Tin-whistle (one of the most convenient musical instruments for a backpacker) and learn to play it for free right here!

27th - 31st Jan. 2010. We love it.
