Here's some of our favourite pubs , we like'em coz they still let us in !!!!!
- Brazen Head (www.brazenhead.com)
Essential stop on the tourist pub trail and a handy stop on the trek back from the Guinness storehouse! Oldest pub in Dublin, on this site since 1198 ad !!! Usual Irish food , ie stew , carvery etc on offer and traditional music most nights. Tis only round the corner from us and has a nice heated courtyard out the front for the smokers !!!
- Sin é
For a relaxing drink, try Sin è on Upper Ormond Quay. It's just across the river from the hostel. Sin-è is decked out in the simple style of an old Dublin pub, with comfortable seating at the front of the bar and a space at the back for trad sessions and DJ sets at the weekend. The bar is dimly lit creating a friendly, unobtrusive atmosphere, leaving you the chance to enjoy your drink and your friends in a relaxed setting as you'll actually be able to hear yourself think in here. Absolutely our favourite , our home away from home. €3 for a pint of Guinness all day sunday and Monday too!
- The Cobblestone
The Cobblestone, a traditional Irish music bar, on the edge of the renovated Smithfield Plaza. about a 5 minute walk from the Hostel .The décor of the bar has all the charm and musty elegance of a country pub. The atmosphere is chatty, convivial and unpretentious. The Backroom downstairs hosts one of the city's finest little venues. The Cobblestone holds gigs throughout the week hosting some of the country's finest traditional and roots musicians. There are also traditional sessions in the bar every night with trad musicians from every part of the country playing quality music. So if you'd like to get away from the big city for a night and enjoy a bit of gossip over a pint, head down to The Cobblestone. The difference between a session and a gig is that people are paid for playing gigs and usually they are professional musicans , people who play in sessions are not paid ( although they won't mind if you send over a pint ) and they usually just enjoying playing with whoever else is about . So if you want to join in there's no problem . Very few pubs in Dublin have a session like this left anymore , they are found much more frequently down the country. - Whelans (Web: www.whelanslive.com)
Whelans has been the standard-bearer for live venues in Dublin for years. It's a pub and live performance venue that was extensively renovated in 1989. The original wood and stone surfaces were uncovered to return the licensed premises back to the grand old-fashioned pub it is now, after an over-extended affair with formica-topped bars and synthetic tiles dating from the '50s.The current music venue part was originally a warehouse and remains a favourite place to play amongst countless musicians. It's an intimate venue where you can perch in various positions like at the bar, in front of stage or at the balcony and see (and hear) the performers perfectly. Very popular place with Dubliners ( well the younger ones who jump around like crazy and the old ones who just stand at the back now nodding their heads in unison ) , we've all spent many a night in here chasing skirt and being chased by it.
- The Foggy Dew
Longhairs and suits both congregate in this bar , it has an eclectic mix of people but is allways a good place for a pint. Old fashioned pub decor makes it nice and cosy and there's usually some fairly weird & interesting characters to chat to . Good music ususally on offer too , none of that chart rubbish.
Late Night Pubs
- Legendary Irish pub in Temple Bar, full to the brim of both locals and tourists. Serves up typical Irish food to accompany your pint and traditional Irish music to entertain you while you take your refreshment. Super friendly and helpful staff full of tips and tricks of Dublin. Live music many nights and always packed with a good atmosphere. Good mix of Dubliners and tourists. Serves food. Warning: Whilst it is a nice pub it is currently charging a ridiculous price for its beer!!
- The Porterhouse (www.porterhousebrewco.com)
This pub brews all of its own beer from Templebrau to the intriguing Chocolate Stout. The original location is on Parliament Street just on the edge of Temple Bar. There are also locations on Nassau Street and Phibsborough. Live music many nights and always packed with a good atmosphere. Good mix of Dubliners and tourists. Serves food.
- Hogans
A trendy pub on South Great Georges Street, Hogans has been the place to show off your new threads for years now. Hogans has a main bar where the punter are mainly standing, a side bar where there is comfortable seating and a down stairs bar, which features DJ nights at the weekend. Hogans used to be the bar where everyone started their night, now it's the bar where everyone ends up at the end of the night. So for a night of drinking and music check out Hogans on Georges Street.
- Pravda (www.pravda.ie) Located on Dublin's quays, facing the Ha'penny Bridge, Pravda is a Russian pub with three levels. It is now serving pub food until 9pm Monday-Friday. . Quirky decor and a young, crowd and a huge and varity of foreign and premium beers. Bit of a meat market on the weekends but we know you like that !!!!!!
- The Globe ( www.globe.ie)
The Globe, one of Dublin's trendiest hot spots, is located on George's Street. It's a stylish modern bar decorated with art works, classical statues and chairs spread around long tables A lot of cool people being cool , has a good nightclub out the back called RI RA
CLUBS
There are loadsa Clubs in Dublin but we have listed a few of the better ones below :
- The Pod ( www.pod.ie )
The best Nightclub in Dublin. The POD has been going since the early 90's .They got us into dance and have been leading us on a merry chase ever since. Three different Clubs all rolled into one , depending on the night they have different or all parts open. Built into an old train station and keeping a lot of the old brickwork they have modernised the building to give it that perfect Club feel, clean and dirty at the same time . Check out their website if you don't believe me !!! We're sick of seeing Bono and the boys here !!!!!!
- The Acadamy ( www.theacademydublin.com )
Another spot that has been going years under different names. The current incarnation is pretty good , nice stage area for bands etc , basement level for DJ's and it has a pretty good crowd.
- The Tivoli ( www.tivoli.ie )
Just round the corner from the hostel , the Tivoli is a theatre but also has live Music and DJ sets . Quite a nice place and different from the rest. It does depend on who's playing however.
- The Button Factory ( www.buttonfactory.ie )
In the Temple bar area , it boasts the ' wall of fame ' , which has famous Irish musicians dotted about on it .Each day brings a different style of music , nice stage area for live music with a good decked smoking area as well.
Songs of Priase and Devotion
Something a little bit different . Every Sunday from 9pm in ' The Village ' it's a DJ set which includes Karaoke !!!!! Yep , that's right , it's a good buzz and plenty of people turn up to sing their little hearts out. You'll definitly have fun if you join in !!!!!!!
These are just a few different options for you , as allways don't be afraid to ask our Receptionists for help or advice on where to go, they all know how to party !!!! Try Thumped.com for up to date Music listings in Dublin
