In Ireland most of the museums are free of charge . Recommendations:
  • National Gallery: The National Gallery of Ireland houses the national collection of Irish art and European master paintings. Admission to the permanent collection is free. The collection spans from the 14th to the 20th centuries and includes all the major Continental Schools (Danby, Rubens, Monet, Picasso,...) A lot of people go just to look at the building which is beaufilly restored (www.nationalgallery.ie)
  • Irish Museum of Modern Art: The Irish Museum of Modern Art is Ireland's leading national institution for the collection and presentation of modern and contemporary art. The Museum presents a wide variety of art in a dynamic programme of exhibitions, which regularly includes bodies of work from its own Collection and its award-winning Education and Community Department. It also creates more widespread access to art and artists through its Studio and National programmes. (www.imma.ie)
  • The Chester Beatty Library: Situated in the heart of Ireland's capital city, the Chester Beatty Library is an art museum and library which houses the great collection of manuscripts, miniature paintings, prints, drawings, rare books and some decorative arts assembled by Sir Alfred Chester Beatty (1875-1968). Its rich collection from countries across Asia, the Middle East, North Africa and Europe offers visitors a visual feast. Chester Beatty Library was named Irish Museum of the year in 2000 and was awarded the title European Museum of the Year in 2002. (www.cbl.ie)
  • National Museum of Ireland: Ireland's premier cultural institution and home to the greatest collections of Irish material heritage, culture and natural history in the world. It's divided in 4 different Museums: Archaeology, Decorative Arts & History, Country Life and Natural History.Three of the Musems are spead throughout the City centre., with the Country life Museum located in Mayo , on the west coast. The Archaeloghy museum has all the old Celtic gold and swords etc , it also houses a lot of early Christian relics. The decorative Arts as you may guess has a large collection of ceramic , clothing weponary etc in the newly restrored Collins barracks . The Natural history Museum had all the stuffed animals until one of them went crazy and knocked down a couple of staircases there so this museum is closed at the moment and looks likely to be for the next year and a half at least.(www.museum.ie)
